BreezeDude Groundstation

The BreezeDude Ground Station is an open-source FANET gateway designed to transmit FANET data to the internet in real time.

It allows live tracking data from FANET-compatible variometers and weather data from FANET weather stations to be transmitted to the Open Glider Network (OGN), where many services and websites can process and display the data.

BreezeDude Ground Station – Key Features:

• Powerful Hardware: Based on a Heltec Wireless Stick V3 Lite, an ESP32-S3 dual-core processor combined with an SX1262 LoRa® transceiver
• Interface board with a simple 5V power input (screw terminals) featuring reverse polarity protection and connections for I²C or analog wind sensors.
• Designed for continuous operation with minimal power consumption (0.3W), the device operates on a stable 5V DC power supply, e.g., a USB charger. A connection adapter with screw terminals is included in the package.
• Open-source and compatible: The BDGroundStation firmware is available on GitHub. The hardware is also compatible with the popular GxAirCom project, giving you the freedom to choose or switch between different software platforms.
• An IP65-rated enclosure allows for year-round outdoor operation.

Contents of the BreezeDude Ground Station Kit

1. Heltec Wireless Stick Lite V3 (with pre-installed firmware) soldered onto the interface board
2. 868 MHz LoRa antenna with adapter for connection to the Wireless Stick Lite V3
3. Connector with screw terminals for 5V power supply
4. Weatherproof ABS housing with cable gland, pressure equalization element, and mounting clamp for a 48-mm mast.

Every BreezeDude Ground Station kit is assembled and tested to ensure that all components work together right out of the box.

Note: An internet connection (via Wi-Fi) is required for the ground station’s gateway functionality. No special subscription is required: Standard Wi-Fi is used to forward data to free community networks (OGN). With this kit, you can set up your FANET ground station in just a few minutes. To mount the interface board, simply snap it onto the tab inside the housing.
